TROUBLE Guitarist Says PHILIP ANSELMO Was Going To Sing On New Album
July 31, 2013In a brand new interview with Illinois Entertainer, guitarist Rick Wartell of Chicago doom legends TROUBLE revealed that former PANTERA and current DOWN singer Philip Anselmo was going to lay vocal tracks on two of the songs on TROUBLE's new album, "The Distortion Field". "Once Kyle [Thomas, current TROUBLE singer] joined the band, and Kyle and Phil being such close friends, they kind of laughed about it," Wartell said. "Phil was kind of like: 'Oh, Kyle, you got this. Just nail it.' Yeah, we decided against it at that point, but who knows? Maybe in the future we'll do something with Phil." If "The Distortion Field" had gone the way TROUBLE and the former PANTERA vocalist were discussing, Anselmo would be singing on the track that became "The Apple From The Snake" (held off the U.S. edition of "The Distortion Field" for Japanese distribution) and "Your Reflection".
"The Distortion Field" sold around 760 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 25 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Due in Europe on August 23 via FRW Records, the 12-song follow-up to 2007's "Simple Mind Condition" was helmed by veteran producer Bill Metoyer (SLAYER, W.A.S.P., ARMORED SAINT, DARK ANGEL, SACRED REICH, CRYPTIC SLAUGHTER, D.R.I.) and marks the recording debut with TROUBLE of Thomas following the departure of the group's frontman of four years, Kory Clarke (of WARRIOR SOUL fame).
Decibel magazine is streaming three songs from the album: "When The Sky Comes Down", "Butterflies" and "Sucker". Check them out using the SoundCloud widget below.
